North Carolina Otoplasty
For those that are bothered by how far their ears stick out, there is a procedure called Otoplasty. This procedure is used to set the ears back against the side of the head and bring the ears to a normative position. One must look at the results of ear surgery as enhancing the natural beauty innate in every patient; the point is not perfection, but the most natural, normative look possible.
The procedure itself lasts between 1 1/2 and 3 hours depending on the severity of the correction. Dr. Ferrari uses a combination of techniques to get the most natural result. The incision made at the back of the ear exposes the cartilage that Dr. Ferrari will shape to fit the new position. The position will then be secured with permanent stitches. Any scarring they may result will be fairly hidden in the natural fold of the ear. While there are instances where only one ear appears to be an issue, surgery is usually performed on both ears to promote symmetry.
